Attended the ESRI UC in San Diego and learned about the new Insights for ARCGIS with drag and drop functionality.
TNRIS intern/ACC student Lauren Kirk won 2nd place in the Student Map - Post Secondary category at the ESRI UC.
Austin Community College recieved Special Achievement in GIS award at the ESRI UC.

Just got 3 years of federal funding for field work to map grasslands to revise vegmap. Attended StateMap meeting chaired by Robert Mace TWDB to leverage $300,000 federal funds through BEG for surface geology mapping along the coast. Showed some of the new hard copy geology maps.

Merged Office of the State Demographer agency with state data center - demographics.texas.gov
Soft launch of open data portal. Txdot.gov/opendata mostly containing vector files. Update of base maps. Jack D at UC announced most Esri online training open for free now.
working on another site called Project Tracker to look up all TxDOT projects in the planning pipeline on a state owned road. Application called Data Update and Sharing App. for data asset collection and local governments can upload data to TxDOT or redline data for updated information. Putting together flight safety document for flying drones. First draft out by end of the year.
Submitted federally mandated road centerlines to the Federal Highway Administration on June 15.
Using AGO more for MPOs for improving local traffic counts.
Developing and consolidating new web map sites.
Started a GIS Center this year. Health science apps in GIS is booming. Lots of new infrastructure coming. Mapped first generation students to show reach and impact from the university. Got a big comptroller’s project for monarch butterflies parasite study. Started a drone committee to understand risk management in accordance with the FAA rules. A faculty member wrote a book on the TX/LA border along Sabine River. Got first grant to establish historic boundary perhaps using lidar.
Talking with Attorney General's office for reality of using drones for air quality monitoring. Land owner allowed to shoot drone down. Ok on public lands. Speculates the legislature will strike down any clearances proposed for drones. TCEQ would use fixed wing 30-40 minute flight to collect air data. Contour the location of all of their monitors. Taking them from 2D platform to 3D.
National 3DEP webinars on August 11, 2pm Central and August 15, noon Central. No formal state or regional meetings. May do something informal with TNRIS in next couple months. Webinars will be posted to the National Map 3DEP site.
The General Land Office developed and released an interactive version of Commissioner Bush’s Energy Map of Texas using Esri’s Story Map web application. Printed copies of the map can also be ordered from the Archive Map Store.
